Tuition sessions last an hour and take place weekly. Unfortunately, I am unable to offer shorter or fortnightly sessions.

The cost varies depending on the level of tuition as follows: Primary, including 11+: £45 per session Key Stage 3 and GCSE: £50 per session A-level: £60 per session

My teaching is organised into half-term blocks, which vary in length according to the academic year. The schedule for the academic year 2024-25 is as follows (38 weeks in total): Autumn half-term 1 Mon 2 Sept 2024 – Sun 20 Oct (7 weeks) Autumn half-term 2 Mon 28 Oct – Sun 22 Dec (8 weeks) Spring half-term 1 Mon 6 Jan 2025 – Sun 16 Feb (6 weeks) Spring half-term 2 Mon 24 Feb – Sun 13 April (7 weeks) Summer half-term 1 Mon 28 Apr – Sun 25 May (4 weeks) Summer half-term 2 Mon 2 June – Sun 13 July (6 weeks) If your child’s school holidays do not correspond to this schedule, I am happy to rearrange lessons if required so that lessons are taken in term-time. Extra lessons are also available in the school holidays.

Payments are made half-termly in advance by bank transfer. You will receive an invoice approximately two weeks before the start of a half-term for the number of lessons that will be taking place during that half-term. So, for instance, if you are having one lesson a week for GCSE German and there are six weeks in that half-term, you will receive an invoice for 6 x £50 = £300. Payment by the date indicated on the invoice (usually the day before the start of the half-term) is requested.

New students are welcome to pay just for their first session on a trial basis, without paying in advance for the whole half-term. Then, if you want to proceed, the cost for that session will be deducted from your invoice for that half-term. I’m afraid I don’t offer free trial sessions.

I am available after school and at weekends. Students have a regular weekly slot for their tuition in term-time. I also offer lessons in the school holidays on an ad hoc basis. In the run-up to exams, I offer extra sessions as required, subject to availability.

The regular teaching schedule includes breaks for school holidays, but I do teach in the holidays by arrangement. These additional lessons are invoiced separately. Please note that I can become extremely busy during the holidays, so it is advisable to book in advance if possible.

If you start lessons with me part-way through a half-term, you will only pay for any weeks remaining in that half-term, and then the next half-term’s lessons will be charged in the normal way.

If your child is finishing part-way through a half-term, e.g. they are taking an exam in the subject I am teaching, you will only pay up until the date of the exam.

If your child is unable to make a lesson for whatever reason, I will do my utmost to offer an alternative slot. Missed lessons can be made up at any time during the academic year in which they were paid for, including school holidays. In the vast majority of cases, lessons can be rearranged. However, no refunds will be given for lessons which are missed by the student and which are not made up.

If your child is late, the session will end at the normal time and the full fee will still apply.

In the rare event that I am unable to make a scheduled session, you can choose to reschedule the lesson or receive a refund. If a refund is chosen, this will take the form of a reduced payment for the next half-term’s sessions, or, if it is your last half-term with me, the fee will be refunded by bank transfer.

You can cease tuition at the end of any of the half-term blocks or part-way through by prior arrangement. If you do not wish to renew for the forthcoming half-term, please let me know as soon as possible so that your slot can be offered to another student.

I have experience of helping students work towards examinations set by a wide variety of examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC/Eduqas, Cambridge, etc.) and can teach to any specification. In the case of those subjects with a literature component, I am used to teaching a wide variety of set texts and can teach any set text (or film, where applicable).

For 11+ and grammar school entrance examinations, I tutor using a wide variety of resources, including GL and CEM resources, as well as past and sample papers from particular schools, and I can tailor tuition to suit the particular school(s) you are applying for. I am very flexible, so please discuss your child’s needs with me.

I am flexible about homework – whether to set any and, if so, how much to set – so please discuss your child’s homework requirements with me. I will email you details of any homework to be completed either during the lesson or shortly afterwards. If your child has completed homework, please email or WhatsApp pictures of their work to me before the lesson.
